Boreham: The 40-year Story... - Graham Robson

Post by Justin Smith »

Another classic book I have read cover to cover several times, sad huh ? ;)

Amazon review this as;

"Yet another masterpiece by Graham Robson. This book is a must for all rally fans particularly those with a passion for the blue oval. Ford & Boreham is rallying's equivalent to Ferrari & Maranello.
Ford arrived at the former WW2 airfield in 1963 & nearly all of their rallycars were developed there. Cars like the Lotus Cortina, Escort Twin-Cam, Escort RS1600, GT70, Escort RS1800, Escort RS1700T, RS200, Sierra Cosworth, Escort Cosworth/WRC, Puma Super 1600 & the new Fiesta Super 1600 were all meticulously prepared at Boreham. This book not only covers the many cars but also talks to the key personnel behind the scenes, such as Walter Hayes, Stuart Turner, Peter Ashcroft, Mick Jones, Mike Moreton, Bill Meade & John Wheeler to name just a few. And then of course there is the star studded driver line up including some of rallying's elite past & present, such as Timo Makinen, Roger Clark, Hannu Mikkola, Bjorn Waldegard, Ari Vatanen, Malcolm Wilson, Stig Blomqvist, Mark Lovell, Carlos Sainz, Francois Delecour, Miki Biasion, Tommi Makinen & many more.
Probably the most impressive thing about this book is the sheer number of photographs there are. Nearly every page has a photo on it & nearly every one of them is in colour & many of them I have never seen before!
To sum up, this book is a facinating account of the highs & lows of one of motorsports most famous teams & is brilliantly written by Graham Robson. It also acts as a fantastic photographic record too!"
