Which bits from Ford's parts bin?

Post by ibrooks »

I'm just about to complete a project that's kept me busy for the last 12 months or so and that means I'll hopefully be able to spend some time on my SPD200. Now it's dimensioally accurate and I've got a set of proper Speedline wheels and I'd like to make a car that needs at least a second look (and ideally a third) to tell that it's not a real RS200 so.... My attention is currently on the interior and I'm trying to track down the necessary bits to make a good copy of a road-going RS200. I know the dashboard is available on ebay so I'm trying to populate it with the right bits. I seem to remember from the old site that someone had listed where a lot of the parts had come from - at least the ones that weren't unique to the 200. Can people check my list and pick up where I'm wrong.

Vents - Mk2 Fiesta. Double one in the middle and a single one at each side (the Fiesta only got one).

Switches - Mk2 Fiesta. The Fiesta only has 3 I think but the 200 has a row of 8 along the bottom of the dash. I'd also like to know what they all do in a 200 and what the symbols are. Since they are turned by 90 deg in the 200 can the symbols be turned around in the Fiesta switches?

Steering column cowl - from the pictures I've got this looks like Mk3 Escort but the 200 one seems longer. Is it a special?

Instruments - from what I've heard the origials aren't available but Greengauges will make quite a selection of custom gauges so something close should be do-able.

Handbrake - early Sierra/P100 without a centre console.

I know there are other bits so if people could add what they know it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Iain

I have posted this before on the Banham site and probably on here too.

Basically,

Fiesta center and both side vents taken from any mk2 model, the best condition ones are from XR2's.
The RS200 gauges are made by VDO, OE are seldom avail, but newer versions are available
The warning lamps are NLA
The center dash panel has Mk1 Sierra sliders, fan switch and Fiesta Fog light switches rotated to vertical.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Mike.

I've looked on the Banham forums and have tried to sign up on occasion but it's not playing nice. I've also tried to contact SPD Bob on numerous occasions with no joy - I'm several bits missing for my kit and specifically wanted to reach him to see if he would either sell me a set of rear coilovers or at least let me know the specs (I did at one point get a mail from him saying he knew my car and would get back to me but I never heard anything more or managed to get hold of him again).

I've got a set of vents (one and a half Fiesta sets).

I'm gradually assembling the Fiesta switches - I've got a pretty mixed bag of fog/rear wash-wipe and heated rear screen ones at the moment. The fogs are obviously going to be easiest to adapt for other purposes as they are a simple on/off but the rear wash-wipe look good too as they have the on/off plus an additional momentary on for the wash. The heated rear screen one is a bit useless I suspect as it's only a momentary switch and probably tripped a slug relay or similar which kept the screen on for a given amount of time but since I'll have many more switches than I've got things to control they can maybe just be dummies.

I've got a Sierra Cosworth wheel - OK it's in Black leather but good enough.

I'll have a dig for the Sierra heater controls - sod's law they will be different to the later ones in my donor car. I'll also keep an eye out for the column surrounds.

What stalk switches does the 200 use? Will the Sierra ones fit and clear the holes of the Escort surround?

The Fiesta switches you need are the "on off" only type.
Which replica car do you have?
