Brake Master Cylinders

Post by Justin Smith »

Has anyone replaced their brake master cylinders, I'm sure I remember someone doing it but can't find anything on a search?

I seem to have very little pedal and the fronts won't bleed properly, wondering if the seals has gone :(

Had a similar problem a couple years ago, decided to drain and refill with fresh fluid and then could'nt bleed the bleeding system  tried everything, pressure bleeding, vacuum bleeding and the good old fashion pumping, eventually became apparent that it was a seal problem due to draining old fluid so had to replace both MC's and did the clutch for good measure, did find out that the fluid spills out of vents on hard cornering and breaking over time, leading to paint peeling on front chassis leg and bridging plate.

I found with ours that a small amount of contamination can block the transfer port and it wouldn't bleed. If the bore is decent it was a pretty simple rebuild.
