which tyres for rs200

Post by stradman »

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to ask people what tyres you guys are running on your 200. I have the standard 16" wheels and the original pirelli's are badly cracked around the edges and the rubber is very hard. As I have just rebuilt the engine and is now producing about 430hp(550hp with variable boost) I don't want to run the car on these original tyres. Just want to hear suggestions.
Many thanks

Unfortunately you won't find the original Pirelli P700 any longer but as a replacement I know some owners have opted for the Pirelli P Zero Asimmentico in 225/45x16. Pirelli don't make these in the dimension regularly but occasionally they do make small batches. I had a set of these in this exact same size on my Escort Cosworth and only recently replaced them. For reference, my set was manufactured in 2006.

Alternatively Toyo should still make the Proxes in this dimension and also the 888 variant which may actually be a good idea considering the power you will now be running.

Hope this helps.

Yes the asimmetricos are good but I can't seem to find them in 16". Thinking about the Bridgestone RE50's though. Any thoughts anyone?

Wow, 50 views so far and only one reply! I presume no other owner amongst them to offer their suggestions on what they are running on their car.....Maybe actual owners don't come on this site as often.

I understand your frustration stradman...

Owners do come on the site, but considering that only about 150-odd RS200's were sold they are not exactly common. Of course only a portion of actual owners are going to be on this site and also many owners have opted for different wheels from the standard road car, exactly for the reason of limited tire choice. Many have fitted the Speedline split rims which are usually wider, though this may not totally solve the problem, while others have gone for 18-inch rims.

I also noticed that the standard tires on the RS200 are not exactly the same as on the Escos as I mentioned previously as you need 50 profile (vs. 45)... Sorry about the confusion.

Regarding the RE50's I've heard a lot of positive feedback about them though I can't say anything from personal experience.

Hi Stradman,

Yes, we do use this site.
I use Toyo Proxes 888 and they are fantastic. Wet or dry.
I use 8 3/4" x 16" 3 piece Speedline's, fitted with 225 x 45 x 16 tyres.
Not sure if they are still available!

Hope this helps,

My car has Marshal Power Racer-II, 245/45 ZR16 on the Speedline split rims, they are directional tyres and seem a good tyre, although i would'nt say i am a tyre expert ;)

Hi Stradman,

we use on our RS200 (more than 500Hp) the Splitt-Rim´s with Kumho Ecsta V700 in Size 245/45R16 94W Tyres. They are Roadlegal using and have if they have a
little bit Temperature some Grip like an Slick-Tyre! You can do Road, Tarmac-Rally and Hillclimb-Race with this Tyre not a problem for them, they
are working very well BUT thinking about, an very soft Tyre have not many Life-Time and many Kilometers!!!!

Regards
Bernd

Thanks guys for all the feedback. I just need to see what I can get my hands on as they are not the easiest tyre sizes available. Interesting that a lot of you have the split rims.....
